Social Resilience as Political Practice

Dr Nanke Verloo is Associate Professor of Urban Policy and Planning at the University of Amsterdam. Her research agenda focuses on changing relationships between citizens and government, with a particular emphasis on conflict. She is particularly interested in how governments and citizens can use conflict to improve their cooperation.
She recently completed her Veni research, in which she conducted ethnographic action research on conflicts arising during citizen participation processes in Amsterdam and Bogota, Colombia. She is currently leading a practice-based research project on participation in Amsterdam and other municipalities after the introduction of the Environmental Act. In addition to her work at the UvA, she is dean of Metropool, a course for urban professionals at the Dutch School of Public Administration.
