New Crafting Resilience Team Members

New Crafting Resilience Team Members

16 September 2024

We are pleased to welcome two new members to the Crafting Resilience Team this October! Namely, Postdoc Janne Heedrik and Project Manager Iris Kolman.

Meet Janne Heedrik! Postdoc for Social Resilience as Political Practice

We are happy to welcome Janne as the postdoc for Crafting Resilience. Starting in October 2024, she'll join Anouk de Koning’s research line ‘Social Resilience as Political Practice'.

As an anthropologist, Janne is particularly interested in the role of governance, policy, and bureaucracy in shaping the relationship between the state and its citizens. Previously, for her doctoral degree, she conducted research in Manchester (United Kingdom) on the role of advice centers as intermediaries between the government and marginalized citizens who are dependent on welfare benefits. From 2022 to 2024, she was a researcher for the parliamentary inquiry committee on fraud policy and public service, which investigated the government's fraud policy and public service provision in response to the government’s involvement in the national benefit scandal. She enjoys working at the intersection of policy and research and aims to study policy processes from an ethnographic perspective and contribute to the development of equitable and effective social policy.

Welcome, Janne!

Meet Iris Kolman! Our new Project Manager

We’re also excited to welcome a new project manager to the team: Iriswill take over the activities and tasks of former project manager Sarah Smith.

Iris brings considerable experience as an office and project manager, having worked with various companies and universities. As a PhD researcher for the ERC project Problematizing “Muslim Marriages" she investigated how Tunisian youth create space for themselves—both literally and figuratively—through cohabitation. Currently, she coordinates the Crafting Resilience and Prototyping Welfare projects at the University of Amsterdam. Iris holds a BA in European Studies and an MSc in International Development Studies. You can reach her at craftingresilience@uva.nl as of mid-October.

Welcome, Iris!
